Advantages and disadvantages of ceramic tableware

The advantages of ceramic tableware include good thermal and chemical stability, easy cleaning, good sealing, and versatile decoration, while the disadvantages include fragility and unsuitability for open flame cooking. ‌

Advantages:

Thermal and chemical stability: Ceramic tableware has good thermal stability and can be used under certain temperature differences without easily breaking. At the same time, they have a certain resistance to acids, bases, salts, and carbonic acid gases in the atmosphere, and are not easily subjected to chemical reactions with other substances. They have good durability and rust resistance. ‌

Easy to clean: The glaze of ceramic tableware is shiny and delicate, and it is easy to wash off after staining, keeping it clean. ‌

Good sealing: Ceramic tableware has fewer pores and low water absorption, which can prevent water evaporation and external bacterial invasion when storing food. ‌

Diverse decorations: Ceramic tableware has colorful decorations such as high-temperature glaze and blue and white decorations, and is free from lead poisoning hazards, so it can be used boldly. ‌

Disadvantages:

Fragile: Ceramic tableware has low impact strength, is not resistant to impact, and is easily damaged. ‌

Not suitable for open flame cooking: Some ceramic tableware is not suitable for direct contact with open flames or high-temperature cooking, which limits their use in certain cooking methods. ‌

When choosing ceramic tableware, the following points should be noted:

Check the texture and color of the ceramic bottom. A good ceramic bottom should be white and delicate. ‌

Using a flashlight to observe through the plate, a good ceramic translucent part should be uniform and free of impurities. ‌

Use a knife to scratch the surface of ceramics to check the hardness of the glaze. Normal decorative patterns on ceramic surfaces should not easily fall off. ‌

In addition, to ensure the safe use of ceramic tableware, attention should be paid not to store acidic foods for a long time, avoid using ceramic products with multiple thorns, spots, or even cracks on the surface, and avoid choosing repaired ceramic tableware. When choosing non-toxic ceramic tableware, attention should be paid to the raw materials and firing process, selecting lead-free and cadmium free food grade glazes, and checking product certification and labels to ensure that the product meets the safety standards of relevant food contact materials. ‌
